Two tries from fullback Jesse Mogg saw the Brumbies secure a comfortable 24-6 victory over the Reds in Canberra on Saturday.
Neither team was willing to give much away in this typically tough derby, and Mogg got a try in each half as the home team got their season off to a winning start.
The fullback latched on to a clever grubber kick from scrumhalf Nic White to score in the corner in the first half and the Brumbies took an 8-6 lead into the half-time break.
The Brumbies' watertight defence proved decisive as the Reds went scoreless in the second half, and Mogg put the final nail in the coffin with a late intercept try.
