New Zealand retained the Bledisloe Cup for the 10th straight year as they easily disposed of Australia in Auckland on Saturday.

The All Blacks showed their superiority, despite an improved performance by the Wallabies to win 22-0 in Round Two of the Rugby Championship - which doubled up as Bledisloe Cup fixtures, ensuring the Kiwis retain the trophy that epitomises trans-Tasman dominance.

It was a 13-point blitz in the first 1-0 minutes of the second half that killed off the Wallaby resistance - two Dan Carter penalties and the conversion of Israel Dagg's try turned a respectable 9-0 half-time score into a commanding 22-0 lead.

That effectively ended the game as a contest - giving Sonny Bill Williams a winning send-off as he heads off to Japan and then back to Rugby League..

The Wallabies had the same problems as last week - inside the first five minutes they managed to take the ball though multiple phases, 12 phases on one occasion, but only ended up conceding a penalty within striking distance of the All Black line.

The set pieces remained a lottery - while the Kiwis were penalised in the first scrum, it was quickly obvious the Aussie scrum was again under enormous pressure.

Despite an energetic start by Australia, who seemed intent on taking on New Zealand in the physical exchanges, the first scoring opportunity went to the All Blacks. However, Dan Carter pushed his kick wide of the upright from about 45 metres out.

By the end of the first quarter the Kiwis still had most of the real scoring chances - especially through some great running by Sonny Bill Williams and his customary sublime off-loading.

In the 26th minute, under pressure, the Wallabies again conceded a penalty within striking distance and this time Carter made no mistake from 30 metres out - 3-0 to the home team.

It went from bad to worse when captain Will Genia was yellow carded in the 29th minute for a professional foul - when he slapped the ball out of an opponents hand while lying on the ground.

And Carter made him pay for his erroneous ways, slotting the penalty from 40 metres out - 6-0. And that became 9-0 just before Genia returned to the playing surface, as the Wallabies went offside under pressure just metres from their line.

That was also the half-time score.

An early offside ruling gave Carter a shot at goal almost immediately after the second-half restart and from just inside his own half the All Black No.10 slotted the penalty for a 12-0 lead.

Moments later the Kiwis turned up the heat with a sublime team try - Israel Dagg finishing off the move, with Sonny Bill Williams very prominent in creating the momentum that ripped the Wallaby defence apart. Carter's conversion made it 19-0 after 46 minutes.

And Carter made that 22-0 as the Wallabies were again forced to go offside with the All Blacks having turned up the heat in the first 10 minutes after the break.

Kieran Read went close in the 61st minute, just knocking on the ball right on the Aussie line - it required the TMO a couple of looks at it on TV to determine that the try was not scored. The All Blacks again went over the line in the 70th minute and this time it was Richie McCaw who knocked on.

The Kiwis failed to add to their score, but they also shut the Aussies out and retained the Bledisloe Cup with ease.
