The 22-year-old has been cursed by injury in 2012 and will end the year on the sidelines after it was decided not to risk a persistent hamstring injury on the four-match end-of-season tour.
"[Just] had meeting with doc, looks like I'll be in £Teamrehab til after spring tour. Gutted I can't play but no risks with huge year ahead £2013," O'Connor wrote on his Twitter page.
The Australia Rugby Union also confirmed O'Connor absence on their official Twitter page in what is another blow to a team already heavily weakened by injury.
O'Connor has not played a Test this year because of liver and hamstring problems that also ruled him out of the majority of the Super 15 season for the Melbourne Rebels.
Australia have further injury doubts ahead of the tour, which begins against France in Paris on November 10, with skipper James Horwill (hamstring), David Pocock (knee) and Berrick Barnes (lung) all in some doubt of missing the trip.
