Steadman: Ready for England test

There are still a number of permutations in Pool B - with England, Scotland and Argentina, who play Georgia on Sunday, all in contention to advance to the quarter-finals.

However Scotland know they must beat England on Saturday by at least eight points to progress to the quarter-finals.

Steadman said: "We know what we've got to do at the weekend and we're preparing to give it our best shot against England.

"What we've got to look at first and foremost is getting a victory. We can't look too far in front of where we are at this moment in time.

"We know what's required, but we've got to get the victory first and if the scoreboard takes care of itself, having played well for the 80 minutes, we can come off the field happy."

Scotland could have already booked their place in the last eight with victory over Argentina, only for a late try from Lucas Amorosino to condemn them to a 13-12 loss.

And Steadman knows there is no margin for error against England at Eden Park.

Steadman said: "We've got another chance and that's the bottom line. We can't afford to let it happen again.

"If we switch off, having conceded a penalty, and give the opposition to play off a free play and execute as they did... that won't happen again.

"We know we can't afford to let them get a head of steam on because they've got a backline that can certainly pose problems."
