French-based World Cup-winning veteran lock Bakkies Botha is on standby to join the Springboks in New Zealand.
South African coach Heyneke Meyer told a media conference in Auckland that Botha has been placed on stand-in case lock Eben Etzebeth loses his disciplinary hearing.
Etzebeth was charged to appear before a SANZAR judicial hearing after an alleged headbutt during South Africa's 19- 26 Rugby Championship loss to Australia.
