Tygerberg did not have it all their own way against a spirited Oudtshoorn side in the Final but Tygerberg eventually pulled away and looked comfortable 33-17 winners in the Final of the @lantic Sevens Series Champions Tournament hosted by Konka, near Rustenburg. Tygerberg this retain the title they won on 2010.
It was a wonderful tournament, the culmination of several other Sevens tournaments around the country, in excellent weather with 16 teams of schoolboys from far in the north right down to the south, and in the main match it was a contest between the Tigers of the Cape and Struisies of South Western Districts.
It was a close match - 12-all at half-time - but Oudtshoorn made costly errors at kick-offs and eventually seemed to run out of steam.
The exciting matches of the day had been between muscular Monument and skilful Ben Vorster and between Oudtshoorn and HTS Louis Botha who had speedster Leroy Bitterhout in their midst. He was chosen for Free State's senior Sevens team at the provincial Sevens but opted to play for his school instead. The Louis Botha side played excellent Sevens.
The 24 teams taking part were Ben Vorster (Tzaneen), Brandwag (Benoni), Dale (King William's Town), Die Brandwag (Uitenhage), HTS Louis Botha (Bloemfontein), HTS Middelburg, Kempton Park, Maritzburg College, Monument (Krugersdorp), Noord-Kaap (Kimberley), Oudtshoorn, Paarl Gim, Pionier (Vryheid), Tygerberg (Cape Town), Waterkloof (Pretoria), Wonderboom (Pretoria.
The 16 teams were divided into four pools of four teams each.
