Cup Quarter-Finalists for Women's College Sevens Nat'l Championship

Published: Friday, 16. December, 2011 in category U.S.

After the first day of the USA Rugby Women’s College Sevens National Championship, eight teams rose above the rest to advance to the tournament’s cup quarterfinals tomorrow and keep their hopes alive for winning the inaugural national title.

Princeton, Norwich, Cal, and Virginia came out unscathed on day one and will enjoy a favorable seeding going into the cup quarterfinals tomorrow (Saturday December 17).

Cal and Princeton cruised to the top of their pools and Norwich was also dominant, scoring 60 points on their opposition. Virginia found ways to win against Arizona State and Boston College, but weren't responsible for any lopsided scorelines like the other three pool-topping teams.

Oregon State, Indiana, Boston College, and Santa Clara earned a spot in the quarters for finishing second in their respective pools, but will face the undefeated number one seeds to start the day tomorrow.

Those teams that didn’t make it to the cup competition won’t be in the running for the national championship, but they can still go home with some hardware in either the bowl or plate competition.
