Tennessee finished 7th in the 2011 Olympic (7s) Rugby Collegiate National Championship Tournament held in College Station, Texas on December 16

Tennessee opened the tournament with a solid win over Oklahoma, scoring three tries in the second half to break open a half time tie score. In the second pool match the Volunteers could never get untracked and were starved of possession by a competent Stony Brook team looking to make a statement - playing by far their best sevens of the weekend against the Volunteers. The Vols finished their pool play against San Diego State which was a rematch of a 2010 CRC contest and many in the UT family were eager for a chance at redemption. A yellow card to SDSU just prior to the half seemed to jump start the Vols and ignited a 4 try second half and secured the victory over the highly regarded Aztecs.

Pool play ended with both Tennessee and Oklahoma at 2-1 and UT advanced to the Cup Division on the head to head tiebreaker. The Volunteers squared off against a very physical Kutztown team in the Cup Quarterfinal round. The Vols played well but simply couldn't penetrate the stubborn Kutztown defense. The loss sent the Volunteers to the Plate Semifinals where they suffered a defeat to St. Mary's. Tennessee rebounded to claim a decisive victory in the Plate Consolation match against Cal Poly and thereby claimed the 7th place finish.
