Three rematches this weekend, as Denver Barbarians match up against the Chicago Griffins, NYAC makes the short trip to Old Blue, and Life heads to Dallas to play the Harlequins.
Denver Barbarians at Chicago Griffins
(1pm Central, Riis Park, 6100 W. Fullerton, Chicago)
In their first meeting earlier this season, Chicago jumped out to a big lead before Denver started chipping away at the lead and made things interesting. The Griffins eventually prevailed 45-35. If recent results against common opponents are any valid indication, the Griffins should be stronger favorites for this game. Denver will hope to put the result aside that aside and focus on the positives from the comeback, and a win would allow Denver to leapfrog Chicago in the standings.
New York Athletic Club at New York Old Blue
(11am Eastern, Baker Field, Columbia University, New York)
NYAC ended up being comfortable winners in the first meeting, but Old Blue hung around for along time before NYAC pulled away in the latter stages. Old Blue has been a bit erratic – a narrow loss to Life suggested they would defeat Dallas, but instead Old Blue had to fight back from a big deficit to tie that game. So which Old Blue might show up this week? Well, the game is against NYAC, which should be extra incentive. NYAC is unbeaten and has the inside track to the playoffs and possible home field advantage. Old Blue would love to mess things up a little at the top of the standings.
Life University at Dallas Harlequins
(3pm Central, Glencoe Park, Dallas)
Dallas lost to Life in their first meeting, but it wasn’t until the second half that Life reduced the error count and stretched the lead into a comfortable win. Life needs a bonus point win to keep the pressure on top of the table NYAC. Dallas is coming off back to back ties, first losing a big lead against Old Blue, then mounting a late but steady comeback against Boston. The young Dallas team has gained lots of experience, and can take encouragement for the close games, and perhaps with a faster start can cause Life some problems.
