The top players in Women’s Club Rugby will converge this Memorial Day weekend to get their shot at making an impression on Women’s Eagles Coach Pete Steinberg.
The Emirates Airline USA Rugby Women’s Club All-Stars will bring the best together at Founders Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. for two days of trial matches for Coach Steinberg and his staff to find the best of the best. Fans can watch all the action, webcast LIVE!
Athletes representing USA Rugby’s seven Territorial Unions who have played for their country, and those looking to break into International Rugby will be under close scrutiny.
Coach Steinberg calls the event “A major selection vehicle. It’s a place where we have eight teams of the best players in the country, and we get to see them perform at the highest level.” Steinberg says this event could also uncover a few diamonds in the rough. “We’re always looking for new players as well. Hopefully we’ll find three to four we’ve never seen before.”
The Women Eagles next assemble for camp in early July, so Steinberg will be looking to cast a wide a net as possible to bring players into his Eagle 365 program to prepare. Steinberg also says for players already in the Eagle 365 program, expectations are high.
“All the players in Eagle 365 will turn up to this event the same way they would turn up to an international. This is an opportunity for them to leverage their skills to improve their performance.” Said Steinberg.
The eighth team competing this weekend is a development side of known players who, for various reasons were unable to commit to, or not selected to play with their territorial sides.
