The 29-year-old was named as the west-country club's new skipper earlier in the week, having previously held the responsibility with the Leeds.
Since moving to Bath in 2008, Hooper has been an ever-present in the starting line-up making 87 appearances.
"To be asked to captain Bath is a huge honour," Hooper told skysports.com. "I have supported the club since a kid so as you can imagine to be asked to lead the side is a great feeling and it's something I'm very determined to be successful at."
Since the loss of Steve Borthwick to Saracens, Bath have struggled to replace the leadership of the former England captain. But Hooper isn't daunted about taking charge of a squad full of such quality.
"I think far from it being a difficult job to captain a team containing so many international stars, it in fact makes my job easier," he said.
Some have criticised Bath in recent years for underachieving and the new captain hopes he can help to change that.
"Part of my role as a leader is to help to get the best out of everybody in a way that produces the best performances on the weekend," said Hooper.
"We feel this year we have the potential to win silverware. It's really is up to us whether we fulfil that potential."
There are a number of new signings this season at the Rec, including the exciting addition of Super Rugby star Steven Donald. But Hooper knows how hard everyone at the club will need to work if they want to win something this season.
"Pre-season is a few weeks old now and we're all working hard, gaining each other's respect by doing so and shaping our team beliefs and culture all the time," he said.
"The new signings who have arrived are all settling in well. It's been great to have most of the new guys around right from the start and so far they are all impressing with their work ethic.
"As players and management we will be giving all our effort in every facet of preparation and of course the games. If we stay true to that we will stand ourselves in good stead to be successful."
