Baxter: Expects a stern examination

Exeter's recent run of wins ended with a 12-9 home defeat against Bath last weekend, and the Chiefs have made two changes. Lock James Hanks returns to the starting line-up in place of Peter Short while Bryan Rennie is rewarded for an impressive display for the Chiefs' second string earlier in the week by getting the nod ahead of Nic Sestaret in the centre.

Baxter said: "We are still at the right end of the table, we still have a lot to fight for.

"I have said to the guys that we will have to perform better against Sale when we come up against a team that is in a richer vein of form than Bath.

"If you look at Sale, they are playing some good rugby right now and they are scoring a lot of tries."

Scotland international Richie Vernon starts in the back row for Sale after being released from international duty. Injury to Andrei Ostrikov sees James Gaskell move into the second row as Wame Lewaravu comes onto the bench.
