Tindall: Caught up in controversy

Tindall featured in three of England's five games in New Zealand, missing last weekend's quarter-final exit at the hands of finalists France.

But the 32-year-old's involvement in the campaign may be best remembered for the night out he had with several other members of the squad following the narrow win over Argentina in England's Pool B opener.

The players attended an event at the Altitude bar in Queenstown dubbed the "Mad Midget Weekender" and Tindall, who recently married Zara Phillips, the Queen's granddaughter, was shown in conversation with another woman.

Tindall's behaviour has since come in for criticism from former England prop Fran Cotton, who is to lead an independent review of the Rugby Football Union's entire structure.

But Redpath said: "I respect Mike massively, he is a rugby player and that's how he will be judged. Many people judge him on many other things.

"I spoke to him on Friday and Sunday because he wanted to know all the plays and moves and to do a bit of homework.

"He needs to play at Gloucester and he needs to get his head down and work hard and forget what he has been through over the last three or four months and knuckle down.

"If he knuckles down he will push for a place, and if he doesn't he is the same as everyone else here."

Gloucester are also set for Samoa centre Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu to return to Kingsholm after he was handed a six-month suspended ban by the International Rugby Board this morning.

The 30-year-old was punished after accusing Welsh referee Nigel Owens of bias in a Twitter rant following Samoa's defeat to South Africa.

Redpath added: "He has been dealt with by the IRB and whatever it is he is back in training next week.

"He is a world-class player, he showed it in that game against South Africa and it's important he gets back to us and gets on with the job at hand."
