O'Shea: Believes future is bright for English rugby

The Rugby Football Union are still dealing with the fallout from England's disappointing World Cup campaign, with a reduction in Mike Tindall's fine and his reinstatement into the Elite Player Squad the latest development.

The disciplining of Tindall, whose off-field behaviour was the subject of much publicity at the World Cup, and the way other incidents in New Zealand were handled has led to fierce criticism of English rugby union's governing body.

And O'Shea, a former RFU director of regional academies who is now in charge of Aviva Premiership table-toppers Quins, believes the negative press is tarnishing the reputation of a sport he insists is still in very good shape.

"We're pretty sick of it really," the former Ireland international told Sky Sports News.

"You get on in your own world here and you do your own job, but it's not reflective of what's going on in rugby in general in this country and that's the disappointing thing.

"There's so many good things going on, there's so many good young players across the leagues, there's so many people doing good things at community level all throughout the sport.

"That's been lost in this and it's tarnished (the sport) in a way it shouldn't. Hopefully we can get it back on the road to redemption, so to speak, very quickly."

The RFU's management board are currently meeting to discuss the recommendations made by the critical reviews into England's World Cup campaign.

An interim manager is expected to be appointed to take charge for the upcoming Six Nations, while director of elite rugby Rob Andrew's future is also expected to be on the agenda.
