Young: Facing tough challenge

The Amlin Challenge Cup clash at Stade Jean Dauger pits together Pool Three's two unbeaten teams, and it comes just five days before they meet again in Wycombe.

"Bayonne have had a big week with a change in their coaching staff, and in many ways that means we don't quite know what to expect from them," rugby director Young said.

"What we do know is that they have a squad full of star players and they've spent a lot of money getting some big names in there.

"That gives them the ability to do something quite special every time they play, so it is a big challenge to our young squad."

Young has made two enforced changes to the side edged out by Aviva Premiership leaders Harlequins last weekend, with injuries ruling out Rob Webber and Richard Birkett, so Tom Lindsay and Sam Jones are their respective deputies.

Wasps attack coach Paul Turner insists his side are improving all the time ahead of the trip to France.

And Turner is relishing the intriguing back-to-back fixtures over the course of the next six days.

"Bayonne are a squad with some really special players who can take us on from anywhere," Turner said.

"But it's my job to look at their defence and examine how I think we can break it down and score against them.

"I think key for us at the moment is improving how we play when we are deep in opposition territory.

"In the game (against Harlequins) last weekend, we had the upper hand in terms of territory and that should be helping us to win a game, but we made some poor decisions at times.

"That is what we have been working on - being smarter in those key areas.

"I think, to be fair, we are improving all the time and I still believe it is early days in terms of this side gelling together.

"We have scored some pretty good tries and we have some of the form backs in the Premiership, but we need to be more cohesive as a team when we have the ball.

"If we win on Saturday, then it really opens up the group for us, so we know the stakes involved."
