I have been asked to provide more information about the Olympic Training Centre (OTC) at Chula Vista. All our National Teams have used the OTC during the last 24 months. The facilities and the environment are a perfect setting for team and player development.

The U.S. Olympic Training Center - Chula Vista (CVOTC) was opened in June 1995, it was the first USOC training center to be master-planned from the ground up and is dedicated to the development and performance of America's future Olympic athletes. The year-round, sea-level, warm-weather facility in California, was a gift to the USOC from the San Diego National Sports Training Foundation, a group of dedicated business and community leaders, and volunteers who raised the funds to build the Center.

Resting on 155-acre complex, the CVOTC is adjacent to Lower Otay Reservoir in San Diego County. The Center operates sport venues and support facilities for the Olympic sports of Archery, Biathlon, BMX, Bobsled, Canoe/Kayak, Cycling, Field Hockey, Luge, Rowing, Rugby, Skeleton, Skiing/Snowboard, Soccer, Speed Skating, Swimming, Track and Field, Triathlon, Volleyball, Water Polo and various Paralympic and Pan American Sports. Athletes are chosen to train the OTC by their respective sport Federation or National Governing Body (NGB).

The OTC offers support including housing, dining, training facilities, local transportation, recreational facilities, athlete services and professional development programs.

The OTC now has dedicated rugby fields and will host the National All Star Sevens event in August.

We are currently working with the USOC to expand the OTC opportunities in 2012.

With an impressive resume as player, coach and administrator, Nigel David Melville took over as CEO and President of Rugby Operations of USA Rugby, the National Governing Body of the sport in America, in 2006.  In addition to his full time job promoting the sport in the U.S., Melville has launched his own blog, Nigel Melville Direct, to further the discussion and his passion for what it will take to make the U.S. a great rugby playing nation.
