The Brumbies ran wild at Loftus Versfeld and the Stormers subdued the defending champions in Brisbane. They dominate our weekly selection.
The Stormers, with four, head our starting XV, while the Brumbies follow closely with three. The Highlanders, Bulls, Crusaders and Chiefs (two each) make up the numbers.
The Bulls and Stormers (three each) have the biggest representation in our back-up squad, while the Brumbies, Waratahs and Blues are next best with two each. The Crusaders, Hurricanes and Chiefs also feature here.
Only two players return from last week - scrumhalf Francois Hougaard (Bulls) and CJ Stander (Bulls).
Team of the Week - Round Nine:
15 - Jesse Mogg (Brumbies):
He did not falter under the many high bombs and was a constant threat on attack - including scored a great try early in the match.
Bubbling under: Israel Dagg (Crusaders)
14 - Henry Speight (Brumbies):
His try-scoring ability was best illustrated with the opening try of the match, when outstripped the Bulls' cover down the right touchline.
Bubbling under: Akona Ndungane (Bulls)
13 - Andrew Smith (Brumbies):
The hard-running outside back, now in his third season with the Brumbies, showed why he has been likened to former Wallaby captain Stirling Mortlock.
Bubbling under: Conrad Smith (Hurricanes)
12 - Juan de Jongh (Stormers):
He may have had a slow start to the season and is still not everybody's cup of tea, but he looked far more at home at inside centre this past weekend.
Bubbling under: Ma'a Nonu (Blues)
11 - Hosea Gear (Highlanders):
The eight-times capped All Black is one of the Highlanders' most valuable off-season signings, a proven strike weapon.
Bubbling under: Gio Aplon (Stormers)
10 - Peter Grant (Stormers):
He may be well down the Springbok pecking order, but if he continues to produce the quality all-round performance that he delivered at the weekend he may well come back into the national selection frame.
Bubbling under: Christian Lealiifano (Brumbies)
9 - Francois Hougaard (Bulls):
He is one of the few Bulls who emerged with his reputation intact after a horror final 10 minutes. However, he should remain at scrumhalf, where he adds more value to the team.
Bubbling under: Brendan McKibbin (Waratahs)
8 - Kieran Read (Crusaders):
The rock around which the Crusaders build their game.
Bubbling under: Fotunuupule Auelua (Brumbies)
7 - Sam Cane (Chiefs):
He made the most of his opportunity to start ahead of Tanerau Latimer at the weekend. There may well be a few more starts for him after this performance.
Bubbling under: Jacques Potgieter (Bulls)
6 - CJ Stander (Bulls):
If rugby is all about taking your opportunities, this young player made sure the Bulls' selectors can't ignore him - even when Springbok Deon Stegmann eventually returns from injury.
Bubbling under: Siya Kolisi (Stormers)
5 - De Kock Steenkamp (Stormers):
He may have warmed the bench all season, behind Andries Bekker, but he certainly did not let the team down in the absence of the veteran Springbok.
Bubbling under: Juandre Kruger (Bulls)
4 - Josh Bekhuis (Highlanders):
As one of the senior players in the Highlanders tight five, Bekhuis has added a running game to his speciality - the line-outs.
Bubbling under: Eben Etzebeth (Stormers)
3 - Ben Franks (Crusaders):
The Crusaders admitted they had targeted the scrums as an area where they could dominate the Hurricanes and Franks was the key to that dominance.
Bubbling under: Charlie Faumuina (Blues)
2 - Mahonri Schwalger (Chiefs):
The Samoan captain showed why his stocks have risen so much in recent years - both in the Test arena and the Super Rugby stage.
Bubbling under: Tatafu Polota-Nau (Waratahs)
1 - Steven Kitshoff (Stormers):
The Stormers must look after this young man like a jeweler after a precious stone - as he will certainly be very valuable on the open market.
Bubbling under: Sona Taumalolo (Chiefs)
