Rugby Canada in Kingston for Announcement

Rugby Canada’s CEO Graham Brown, along with National Men’s Program Manager Gareth Rees, were on hand today at Richardson Stadium in Kingston, Ontario to speak with the media and the community about the upcoming International test match taking place in Kingston on Saturday, June 9th.

The game in Kingston will be the highly anticipated rematch of Canada’s National Senior Men’s Team vs. the US, who met in the “Battle at BMO” this past August in Toronto. Playing against the background of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, this should be a terrific match between these two long time rivals.

“With the “Battle at BMO” being such a success, we felt that bringing the US team to Kingston would be a great opportunity for a market that can bring in fans from both Canada and across the border,” said Graham Brown. “Kingston is such a strong rugby community and having them be apart of the Summer Test match series is going to be exciting for both Rugby Canada as well as the City of Kingston.”

The National Senior Men, ranked 13th in the IRB standings, look to get back onto the field for the first time since they competed in the 2011 Rugby World Cup. They hope to have the upper hand against the Americans, currently ranked 17th, as they won both games they faced the US in 2011, victorious in both Toronto as well as Denver.

“Coming back after their performance at last year’s World Cup, the men are ready to get back on the field and doing it in front of the home crowd is a great opportunity,” said Gareth Rees. “This Summer Test Match series is a great way for Canadians across the country to see the Senior Men play live, and we are really looking forward to kick things off in Kingston.”

Tickets for the Kingston match are already on sale, and can be purchased at kingstonrugby.ca. Kick off for the game is set for 2 pm.

Rugby Canada would like to thank all those who came out to Richardson Stadium and we look forward to seeing everyone at the game.
