Eight teams competed in pool play Saturday at the California 7s seeking to seed their Sunday matchups, and the Golden Bears finished third in Pool B to set up a quarterfinal clash with Saint Mary's at 9:50 a.m. Sunday on Pat Vincent Field.
The Bears lost to San Diego State, defeated Loyola and fell to Cal Poly on Saturday. The Gaels beat Santa Clara and the University of San Diego, then lost to UC Davis to finish second in Pool A (see complete standings at bottom).
"It was fun to compete and we're looking forward to tomorrow," said head coach Jack Clark.
The winner of tomorrow's quarterfinal between the Bears and Gaels will play a Championship Semifinal against the winner of UC Davis/Santa Clara at 12:20 p.m. as all eight teams in the tournament enter the knockout round in contention.
The Championship Final is scheduled to kick off at 2:10 p.m.
