The first day of the inaugural USA Rugby Men’s College Sevens Championship is in the books and the top eight teams to compete for the national title have emerged from pool play.

Saint Mary’s, Kutztown, Arkansas State, and Life all made it through pool play undefeated, with Life going 2-0-1 after a 17-17 tie to Wisconsin. Arkansas State was arguably the most impressive men’s team through day one after scoring 104 points and giving up 7 points in three matches.

Along with the above teams, Tennessee and Colorado also won their respective pools and will be joined by Central Washington and Cal Poly in the championship bracket on Saturday. Colorado won the “Pool of Death” and earned their place in the championship bracket after a last-second try to defeat Miami (Ohio).

The remaining 16 men’s teams did not qualify to compete for the national title on Saturday, but they will be competing to bring home the plate and bowl trophies.
