Dartmouth is proud to be selected to host the Northeast Regional of this year’s Men Division I-AA and Division II College playoffs at the Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse on Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th. In total, eight teams, four from each division, will arrive in Hanover to compete in the Round of 16 and quarterfinals of their respective tournaments.
Games will start at 9 am on Saturday, April 28th with a Division II round-of-16 match between Colgate University and Bentley University. Another DII match will follow at 11 am, as Boston University will take on a to-be-determined opponent from the Mid-Atlantic conference. After that, the two Division I-AA matches will take place at 1 and 3 p.m. Currently only the champions of the East Coast Rugby Conference, Northeastern University, have earned a trip to Hanover, as the other three conferences sending teams – the Empire Rugby Conference, the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union, and Dartmouth’s own Ivy Rugby Conference– will determine their representatives in tournaments to be held earlier in the spring.
The schedule will follow the same form on Sunday. A consolation match for the two losers of the DII matches will be held at 9 am with a quarterfinal match between the two DII winners to be played thereafter at 11am. Another consolation match, this time between the losers of the DI-AA matches will be played at 1 pm. The weekend will wrap up at 3 pm with two DI-AA winners facing off in a quarterfinal match. The two teams that leave Hanover without a loss will head to the DI-AA and DII national semi-finals respectively. The semifinals and finals for both tournaments will be held at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah on May 18-19th.
Dartmouth, who are the 2012 Ivy League champions because of their undefeated run through the regular season must play their way through the Ivy Playoff on April 14th and 15th at Princeton. The winner of the Ivy playoff, contested between the top 4 Ivy teams–Dartmouth, Brown, Princeton, and Harvard– will go on to represent the Ivy League in the national playoffs.
Dartmouth Rugby Coach Alexander Magleby ’00 was obviously excited to have his school and team host such a high-profile event. “It’s exciting to be able to share our great college town with other schools. We are looking forward to the support of our growing rugby fans in the Upper Valley as we watch some the best play in college rugby.”
All matches for the weekend will be played on Brophy Field and will be free to the public. The Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse is located at 9 Reservoir Road in Hanover, 1.8 miles north of the Hanover Inn, off of Lyme Road. Directions can be found here:
