With winter term classes wrapped up and the spring season fast approaching, Dartmouth Rugby will be packing its bags and heading down to the sunny Cayman Islands for its annual spring tour. The Big Green will be in the Caribbean between March 15th and 25th, and during the course of their week and half stay they’ll play some of the best competition the islands have to offer.
In total, the 1st and 2nd sides will play 6 matches over the 10-day tour, with the highlights being a pair of matches between the 1st XV and the Caymen National Team. Not only will it be an honor for Dartmouth to take on a national side, but it also will be a good chance to test their skills against an up and coming member of the Caribbean rugby scene. After notching a victory against rivals Jamaica and giving an upset scare to Mexico in last year’s North American Caribbean Rugby Association XVs championship, the team has now turned its considerable talent and resources towards qualifying for the next Rugby World Cup in 2015.
With this goal in mind, the Cayman ruggers will certainly give a spirited effort against their counterparts from New Hampshire. The two matches will be played Saturday, March 17th and Saturday, March 24th, with both of them kicking off at 5 pm. For those who would like to watch without springing for a plane ticket, theses matches, along with all the other games The Big Green play on tour, will be streamed online at www.caymanrugbytv.com.
The 1st XV will have one other match on the tour, taking on the Cayman Selects side Tuesday, March 22nd, again at 5pm. The 2nd XV will also be playing 3 games of their own on tour, the first of which will be against the Cayman Selects side on Saturday, March 17th at 3 pm. Next, they’ll play the Cayman Under-21 team on Thursday, March 22nd at 5 pm. Their final match will come Saturday, March 24th when they again play the Cayman Selects side at 3 pm. All matches on tour will be played at the Grand Cayman Squash and Rugby Club. A complete schedule showing all of Dartmouth’s matches on tour can be found at the bottom of this press release.
The Big Green will return to campus March 25th, to begin preparations for the Ivy Wildcard Championship, to be played April 14th-15th in Princeton, NJ.
