Comfortable victories over Portugal (24-5) and Spain (22-12) were followed up by a 19-12 loss to Wales on Saturday in the final Pool B game of the day.

England will now face Pool A victors New Zealand, while Wales face a slightly less daunting tie against France on Sunday.

South Africa topped Pool C after a 19-5 group deciding clash with Australia, who finished second and will now face Pool D winners Fiji in the last eight. Samoa finished second in the group and will face South Africa.

Fiji, Samoa and Scotland all finished Pool D level on seven points after three games, although the home side's 45-7 victory over the United States fell just short of the 40-point margin of victory that would have won the pool.
