Robinson: Gearing up for Romania clash

In his two-year tenure, Robinson has led Scotland to memorable wins over Australia, South Africa, Ireland and a 2-0 Test series success in Argentina.

But repeating the performance and the result time and again has not always been possible, as was proved in a disappointing RBS 6 Nations campaign.

Robinson, whose side head to Invercargill chasing a fourth successive win, said: "Over the years Scotland have had some outstanding victories but haven't put together back-to-back victories.

"That was one of the challenges we talked about as a group when I first got involved - being able to put together back-to-back victories.

"We've worked really hard at getting a consistency of performance. "That's about each performance you have - you just focus on the performance and winning the game.

"It's a very simple mindset, but it's about getting everybody on board with it and going out and performing.

"The key aim for us is to win the game. The rest of it takes care of itself."

Scotland play Romania and Georgia within five days in Invercargill before the Wellington meeting with Argentina on September 25 and an Auckland date with England on October 1.

Robinson is keen for a fast start, for Scotland to take the initiative, establish forward momentum and convert the chances created against Romania.

He has selected arguably his first-choice scrum, with Mike Blair and Ruaridh Jackson named in the crucial half-back roles which will dictate the pace and direction of the game.

Robinson hopes to see his side's expansive game continue - and for it to be rewarded.

He added: "We like to play with the ball in-hand, we like to move the ball around - contrary to what some people think about Scotland and the way Scotland play.

"Our forwards passed the ball in the Six Nations more than any other forward pack. That's a key way we want to play the game, to move the ball.

"We've been working hard on the players to improve their skills - it's about delivering that in the game."

Robinson, though, is refusing to underestimate Romania.

He added: "As a coach, as a team, we prepare to win every game. We've got to face the challenges that are there with the Romanian side.

"We've full respect for the way they can play the game, they're a developing side, a young side.

"We've seen them in Nations Cup - we had first-hand experience in 2009 when we were over there to see the passion they can play with and the power of their forwards.

"They've got a number of experienced forwards who have been playing at Perpignan.

"We're going to have to take them on, as always in any game.

"If we can get a go-forward, get quick ball, then you can put the defence under pressure.

"If you get slow ball it's a lot easier for the defence to pick you up.

"We're going to have to work really hard in the game and the guys are looking forward to that."
