Robinson on Wednesday named a side showing six changes and one positional switch following last weekend's 13-12 loss to Argentina which means Scotland must beat England by eight points or more - thus denying their rivals a losing bonus point - to advance to the quarter-finals.
Second row Alastair Kellock returns as captain, Euan Murray is to start at tighthead prop, Richie Vernon at number eight, Mike Blair at scrum-half, Simon Danielli on the wing and Joe Ansbro at outside centre, while Sean Lamont moves to inside centre.
Out go Jim Hamilton, Geoff Cross, Kelly Brown, Rory Lawson, Graeme Morrison and Nick De Luca, with the latter dropping to the replacements' bench.
Scotland have progressed to the knockout stages at every previous World Cup tournament and Robinson knows what is at stake, but is first determined to win the match.
Robinson said: "It's the next challenge for me. It's a great challenge to have.
"The players are really excited. There's a really good buzz around the side, not just because we're playing England, but because of the challenge that's there.
"What you look for in any Test match is winning the Test match and that's what we're going to focus on.
"We can't get over worried about the scoreboard."
Scotland last beat England by eight or more points in 1986.
In the 25 years since, Scotland have won four times - in 1990, 2000, 2006 and 2008 - all by a six-point margin and all at Murrayfield.
There are many permutations, with England, Scotland and Argentina, who play Georgia on Sunday, all in contention to advance to the last eight.
Robinson, who was head coach of England before leaving the role in November 2006, added: "We can't go on the pitch and chase the game, we've got to build ourselves into the game.
"We're not playing Argentina, we're playing England. It's a completely different game.
"We've got to get the scoreboard moving right at the start of the game, but play what's in front of us and not get concerned about the scoreboard."
Robinson denied the number of changes were a reaction to the agonising loss to the Pumas.
He said: "We pick sides to win games of rugby. We have 30 quality players in the squad that I believe all can perform for Scotland.
"The selections that have been made have been around the teams we've been playing against, the way we want to play."
Kellock was omitted from the team to play the Pumas, despite being named tournament captain in August, and comes in for Hamilton, who has been struggling with a knee injury.
Now scrum-half Lawson, the captain against Georgia and Argentina, must face up to being outside the matchday 22, with Blair preferred for the Edinburgh number nine to win his 75th cap.
Vernon replaces Brown at the back of the scrum and Murray, who performed well against Georgia, is back in for Cross in the front row after being unavailable last Sunday's match in Wellington due to his religious beliefs.
Behind the scrum, it is the same three-quarter line Scotland fielded against England at Twickenham in the 22-16 RBS 6 Nations loss in March.
"I'm really pleased with the selection that we've got," Robinson added.
"We've made a number of changes, Al coming back in as captain.
"That was a tough week last week for Al, but he handled it brilliantly, he gave Jim Hamilton total support and that's the measure of the person."
Brown was unavailable after suffering concussion and undergoing the International Rugby Board protocols to treat such and injury.
"He went on the bike on Wednesday and still had headaches so there's no way he could've played," Robinson added.
