Glasgow Warrior Grant failed a fitness test on a calf problem sustained against South Africa, with Bristol's Traynor promoted off the bench to start at Pittodrie.
It is the sixth change to the team following the loss to South Africa.
Traynor will win his first cap in three years and his fourth in all after being an unused replacement in the first two Tests of the autumn, against New Zealand and the Springboks.
