Newport Gwent Dragons head coach Darren Edwards was delighted to see his side score 33 unanswered points in a 42-14 triumph over London Welsh.
Welsh were 14-9 ahead going into the final quarter but the Dragons dominated the remainder of the contest.
"The first half was pretty static and boring," Edwards said. "It was like a game of chess but I'm extremely pleased with our second-half performance.
"We have some talented individuals who began to express themselves. Their try spurred us on and it was important going back into the RaboDirect PRO12 next weekend that we finished with confidence and momentum."
Outside-half Steffan Jones broke the Dragons' scoring record for an individual match with 27 points and Edwards added: "He's a point-scoring machine and he and centre Jack Dixon, with his off-loading today, were particularly impressive."
Despite finishing pointless in their LV=Cup pool, London Welsh coach Lyn Jones was not too downbeat.
"We were focusing on next weekend's Aviva Premiership clash at Leicester," he said. "We needed to get some players some game time and get them back up to speed.
"We did create 15 try-scoring opportunities but failed to take any of them. We created so much but when the Dragons had their chances they took them and deserved victory."
On the forthcoming game with Leicester, Jones added: "We hope to be competitive; they are well drilled and well coached.
"It's a big challenge for us but there is nothing better for the players than a big stage to play on."
Dragons forward Andrew Coombs made an impressive debut for Wales against Ireland on Saturday, a fact which his coach Edwards recognised.
"Andrew was outstanding," Edwards said. "He is a performer who other players would love to play with. He has real pride in the Welsh shirt.
"I also thought our other player Toby Faletau was excellent and fellow international Dan Lydiate is back in training. He is on course to return in the next month and as Lions coach Warren Gatland knows him so well, I expect him to be ready and in the Lions squad."
