Bias back from cancer

French loose forward, 30-year-old Alexandre Bias, is back from a battle against cancer to try out for a place in the Brive squad for next season.

Bias learnt his rugby at the Massy club in a suburb in the south of Paris. In 2000 he was in the French Under-19 side that won the World Championship. By then he was playing professional rugby with Brive (1999-2002) and went on to  Bourgoin (2002-2004) and then Castres (2004-2009).

In 2009 he contracted Hodgkin's disease, a form of cancer that attacks the glands. In remission at present he has rejoined Brive on a trial basis for a month. If he stays healthy and his trial is a success, he will join Brive for the 2011-2012 season.

Here's hoping.
