Duvenage in doubt, Fourie cleared

The Stormers have an anxious wait to see if scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenage passes a fitness test on Friday ahead of their Super Rugby semifinal against the Crusaders on Saturday.

Duvenage is still struggling to shake off the quad injury that ruled him out of their match against the Cheetahs two weeks ago.

There was good news elsewhere in the camp, as the coaches breathed a collective sigh of relief that both centre Jaque Fourie and flyhalf Peter Grant have been cleared to play.

"Jaque Fourie has been cleared, but Dewaldt Duvenage will face a fitness test tomorrow [Friday]," backline coach Robbie Fleck told rugby365.com.

The question marks over Duvenage's fitness means that youngster Louis Schreuder could star in the No.9 jersey as he did against the Stormers.

UCT star Nic Groom is the second Stormers player to be granted special dispensation this week, after Schalk Brits was cleared, and will be the backup scrumhalf if Duvenage can't play.

"Nic Groom will then come back onto the bench and we will need to make a decision about who will cover flyhalf for us," Fleck said.

The absence of Ricky Januarie means that the Stormers will be without an experience scrumhalf and must rely on youth to pull them into the final if they lose Duvenage.

It's likely that Schreuder will also be the flyhalf cover as he was against the Cheetahs, although Jean de Villiers, Gio Aplon or Conrad Jantjies will all be considered should Grant have to go off.
