Apparently there has been a change to the selection, announcement and future activities of the SA Academy team this year.
It was not as in the recent past chosen at the end of the Academy Week and will not, as happened in 2009, be playing at Craven Week. Nor will it, as in previous years, be playing the SA Schools side.
Instead the SA Academy side will be announced at the end of the Craven Week and it will play against opponents as yet unknown.
The SA Academy side seem to be victims of their own success. They beat the SA Schools side in 2000 (23-20), 2004 (35-26), 2005 (30-24) and 2008 (41-19). In those years the SA Schools side beat the SA Academy side only once - 50-15 in 2007. Of course it seemed odd and caused some embarrassment that team chosen from players regarded as not good enough to go to Craven Week should defeat a team chosen from players who went to Craven Week.
We have made inquiries and will let people know when there is some news.
