Decision time for playmaker Cruden

Young flyhalf Aaron Cruden has rejected an offer to play for the Blues next season and is now faced with a choice between staying with the Hurricanes or moving to the Chiefs.

The exciting playmaker obviously did enough this season to convince Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett to try and hang on to him, but he has also received an offer from his former mentor Dave Rennie who is taking over at the Chiefs.

The All Black pivot told Fairfax Media: "It's come down to just those two now. I had a call from Pat Lam, too, which was really nice to know other teams were looking at you as well, but at this point it's just between the Chiefs and the Hurricanes.

"I haven't made up my mind yet and it's been a pretty hard decision. We are just working through the process now and hopefully early next week we can make a decision there," he added.

The decision will depend on the usual factors, as well as the input of his partner.

He said: "I suppose it will be my own personal development, coaching, team culture... you think about all those sorts of things. We have to go away and write a bit of a pros and cons list and make the decision that is best suited for me and my partner, so that's what we'll be doing in the coming days.

"The make up of squads do have a bit of an effect, so I've been talking to those guys, the likes of Piri and Cory Jane and just trying to pick their brains and get an idea of what their thinking is and that will help me make my decision as well," he explained.
