Expansive game to dominate at WC

All Black coach Graham Henry reckons teams will play an expansive brand of rugby at the World Cup.

However, he still believes the weather will dictate just what tactics are used.

History shows that teams tend to play it tight at the World Cup, especially in the knock-out rounds where the stake are high and the line between success and failure is fine.

But Henry feels teams will look to play more entertaining rugby when the seventh instalment of the global tournament kicks off on September 9.

"I think there'll be more use of the ball than there was in 2007, but the weather conditions may play a part," he says.

"You usually get a bit of rain in September, October in Auckland so it'll be interesting to see how that pans out.

"And if it does rain a lot that will dictate how the game is played to a certain extent.

"It will be more expansive than 2007, I think if you try and play in that style [a cautious kicking game] you won't win."

Henry will name his 30-man Tri-Nations squad this Sunday.
