Trinityhouse of Johannesburg are on a tour of Argentina and Chile, and played their third set of two matches (1st XV and 2nd XV) against the Córdoba club Tala who were on tour of South Africa earlier this year. Deon Els of Trinityhouse reports.
Wow! We're all a little breathless here as we wait for yet another Argentinian braai-reception to start. Everything about this afternoon's matches was better; from the way we were received to the sportsmanship displayed on the field. Credit to Tala. Not that the rugby was by any means soft - it was hard, brutally so at times and our opponents were big and strong.
The Seconds started slowly again and a rout looked on the cards when the Wolves found their game and scored three late tries by Brendan le Roux, Ollie Bruens and Ross van Coller to go down 40-15 and finish strongly despite the obvious size and age difference - not to mention the injuries and flu that threatened to seriously disrupt our boys. (We only had 29 fit players).
Bring on the Firsts. We were never going to get up psychologically to the heights that we reached two nights ago in Rosario and made quite a few mistakes that Tala capitalised on quickly to go 5-0 up and put us under a lot of pressure. Our defence, however, was magnificent and has been all tour. We struck back with tries by Matthew Feinstein and Luke Palmer only for Tala to hit back and put the match on a see-saw: first 17-all then 24-all before Kieran Usher and Ray Charlotteaux made the game safe in the final five minutes for the Wolves to win 31-24 and make it three from three.
Tala were unbelievable at scrum-time and gave us a real lesson in scrummaging, as only Argentinean teams can. Our pack mauled beautifully and it was our guts and sheer bloody-minded defence and will-to-win that pulled us through.
So it's off to Chile, adios to our new friends and wonderful hosts at Tala, the memories that our boys have garnered here today will stay with them all their lives.
