Griquas sweat over Super stars

Griquas coach Abré Minnie is hoping for a late miracle, as he plans for the start of the Currie Cup season.

Two of his team's Super Rugby players, scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius and flyhalf Earl Rose, look likely to miss the opening match of the season - against Western Province at Newlands on Saturday.

Pretorius has aggravated the knee injury that sidelined him from last week's pre-season friendly against the Border Bulldogs.

A final call on his availability will be made on Tuesday.

Sharks Academy scrumhalf Shannon Rick, who was on a one-week trial in Kimberley as a result of Pretorius' injury, has now been signed for the rest of the season.

The absence of Rose, who could not train with the team last week after his stint with the Stormers, has opened the door for another former Shark, Monty Dumond.

Two other Super Rugby players, wing Fabian Juries (knee injury) and flank Davon Raubenheimer (ankle), are also on the doubtful list.
