Queensland Rugby mourns loss

University of Queensland player Halley Appleby has passed away in a Brisbane hospital after sustaining brain and spinal injuries in a local club game.

The 21-year-old forward lost consciousness after being tackled playing in a match against GPS and received CPR on the field before being taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital by ambulance.

The popular player was declared brain dead on Sunday and his family took a decision to turn his life support off on Monday, he will be missed terribly in the local rugby community.

Queensland Rugby issued a statement saying that the thoughts and prayers of the organisation remain with his family, friends and all those affected by this tragic accident.

Police said they would compile a report for the coroner to determine how Appleby died.
