Western Province's flyhalf woes seem to have followed them from Super Rugby into the Currie Cup with news that Gary van Aswegen will be sidelined for the next two months.

Van Aswegen limped off during Province's 26-26 draw with Griquas at Newlands after making a promising start to the match at pivot.

Western Province Rugby confirmed via Twitter: "Gary Van Aswegen out for 7-8 weeks - partial tear to his medial knee ligament - brace for 2 weeks & rehabbed for a further 5-6 weeks."

With Peter Grant in Japan for a second stint and Lionel Cronje, Tim Lane and Kurt Coleman all injured the contenders for the No.10 jersey are regular scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenage who could make a return from injury and UCT star Demetri Catrikilis.
