Still no Pretorius power for Griquas

Griquas have named a 24-man squad to tackle the Lions this weekend, although star scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius is still unavailable.

Pretorius was the talk of the Super Rugby competition after his string of fantastic performances for the Cheetahs, but the nuggety No.9 hasn't featured in the Currie Cup yet this season.

Griquas will belive they have a real chance to cause some upsets in this season's Currie Cup, with all the bigger unions battling to overcome the mass exodus of players to the Springbok squad.

The men from Kimberley drew 2-26 with Western Province at Newlands last weekend, and will want to get a win under their belt against the Lions at home on Saturday.

Griquas squad:

Forwards: Steph Roberts, Ryno Barnes, Lourens Adriaanse, Hendrik Roodt, Martin Muller, Justin Downey, Davon Raubenheimer, Jonathan Mokuena (captain), Matthew Dobson, Jean Botha, Frikkie Spies, Jaco Nepgen, Burger Schoeman.

Backs: Shannon Rick, Monty Dumond, Fabian Juries, Barry Geel, Wilmaure Louw, Richard Lawson, Riaan Viljoen, Matthew Rosslee, Logan Basson, Rudi Vogt, Jean Stemmet.

Date: Saturday, July 23
Venue: GWK Park, Kimberley
