Blues lock forward Kurtis Haiu pleaded guilty to assault charges in the Pukekohe District Court on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges, for common assault and possession of an offensive weapon with intention to use to cause harm according to 3 News.

He assaulted property dealer Glen Cooper, while holding a hammer, in the South Auckland suburb of Karaka on May 12.

Haiu, who was diagnosed with a bone tumour on his ribs earlier this year, has been released on bail until his sentencing on August 22.

Haiu's lawyer is expected to apply for his client to be discharged without any conviction at this time.
