Johannes Roodt - Captain of Hangklip

Hoërskool Hangklip captain Johannes Roodt has fond memories of his team's tight 14-13 victory over Hoërskool Aliwal North last year and is hoping for history to repeat itself in their FNB Classic Clash this weekend.

Hangklip have an experienced team this year, with 12 Matric boys in the starting line-up and their skipper is hoping to lead them to another victory over a team that always give them a hard game.

The hard-tackling inside centre, who models himself on Springbok Jean de Villiers, will look to lead by example against Aliwal North and meet the physical threat that the visitors will present head-on.

Roodt has experience in a number of positions, including flank, fullback and outside centre, but he has made his mark in the No.12 jersey for Hangklip this year and was rewarded with selection to the Border academy team.

It has been a hard season for Hangklip and they would dearly like to register a win over their rivals in front of their home crowd, but it certainly will not be easy.

The Hangklip pack may not be the biggest schoolboy rugby players but they are mobile and Roodt explained that they will do their best to move the big Aliwal North forwards around the park this weekend.

"We will take the ball through a few phases and then go wide because we have quite a lot of speed in our backline. It is normally a very tight game against them so we are all looking forward to it," he told classicclashes.co.za.

Roodt plans to attend university to study a business management degree next year and has his eye on playing for NMMU in Port Elizabeth, but this week his mind is firmly set on getting the job done against Aliwal North.
