Hoërskool Kroonstad (Blouskool) captain Johann Botes is expecting a tight and physical tussle against the Rooiskool this coming weekend - a highly-anticipated FNB Classic Clashes outing.
Botes and his teammates will be chasing a first Blouskool triumph in this fixture since 2007 - the Rooiskool having dominated this fixture in recent years.
Johann told classicclashes.co.za: "Games like this are like no other.
"It's a wonderful occasion and we'd like nothing more than ending our losing streak this Saturday.
"We're expecting a very tight game and with the whole town bound to be there supporting us it will be a great day out.
"We have a physical team, but, yet, we also have enough gas out wide, so we're well up for the game. It's very important to have belief, however... if your head is right, anything can be achieved."
Botes, who is in Grade Twelve, recently played in the Academy Week for the Griffons where he served as the team's vice-captain.
Although the Griffons' Academy team did not win any matches at the annual schoolboy tournament (effectively the Craven Week 'B' tournament), he thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Next year he plans on attending Potchefstroom University (to study law) and he would like to play for the powerful NWU-Pukke, who, of course, play in the FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International.
Johann - who has played loose forward for his entire high school career - weighs 82 kilograms and stands 1,83 metres tall.
He will be wearing his favourite No.8 jersey on Saturday - like his hero Duane Vermeulen of whom Botes enthused: "He's so physical... he deserves a chance to play for the Springboks!"
And on leading his team out - in an FNB Classic Clash of this nature - Johann concluded: "Just being captain of my school's First XV is a massive honour. Saturday is an even bigger honour and hopefully we can make it a day to remember."
