The South African College High School (SACS) travelled out to Brackenfell and comfortably dealt with the challenge posed by the hosts. After leading 31-6 at half-time SACS went on to win 66-13.
The first five minutes of the game were evenly contested as the teams felt each other out. An early mistake by SACS gifted Brackenfell three points. It wasn’t long after that Brackenfell returned the favour and SACS were able to draw level. Following a good break around the side of a ruck from scrumhalf Curwin Beaton, Brackenfell were able to once again go three points clear as SACS were offside at a ruck.
From then on it was all SACS as they ran in four tries before the interval. When SACS put the ball through structured phase play the Brackenfell defence was found wanting and this led to tries for Cameron Calder, Ryan Johnson and Miles Hoogwerf. SACS fourth try came from first phase as centre Storm Winter cut through from a set move and offloaded to his centre partner Abi Jacobs to score.
Jacobs was first on the scoresheet early in the second half as SACS scored a somewhat lucky try after both teams were guilty of basic errors. Brackenfell worked their way back into the game with some strong work by their forwards as SACS were guilty of over-elaborating and conceding unnecessary turnovers. Brackenfell were rewarded for the efforts with fine try by centre Jason Barrish.
SACS gathered their composure after that setback and ran in four more good tries as the game drew to a close. One was a long-range intercept by Storm Winter but the others came from good interplay between forwards and backs. The final try in particular a peach as SACS took a kickoff and ran the full length of the field for Hoogwerf to take the inside pass and get over for his second try.
SACS flyhalf Chris Smith goaled all nine conversion and a penalty for a personal tally of twenty-one points.
