Great win for Muir

A determined Muir College travelled to Despatch and thumped them 33-13. At the break the visiting Muir was leading 21-8.

Muir dominated the break-down areas and rucks and forced Despatch to make mistakes which they were punished for. Flyhalf Frank Adonis capitalised in the first five minutes to kick a penalty and take the lead. The hosts reverted to their forwards and eighth man Wynand Grassmann scored to take the lead. Adonis used the boot to punish the hosts and regain the lead.

A slip in concentration by Muir resulted in Whayburn Howley's kicking a penalty and Despatch's edging ahead. Adonis kicked his third successful penalty for the game to close the gap.

Muir stepped up a level and increased the intensity to outplay the defense allowing right wing Siviwe Tize to cross the line and put the visitors in the lead. Muir put phase after phase together and made use of angled runners to put the defence on the back foot and under pressure. This continuous pressure allowed scrumhalf Sonwabo Majola to see a gap and take full advantage to score the team's second try. Adonis kicked the conversion to give Muir a 21-8 lead at the break.

Muir came out firing in the second-half to keep Despatch pinned in their half. Muir exploited space out wide with quick ball and rewarded as flank Lwando Konya crossed the line. Adonis kicked the conversion to further extend the lead. Good inter-play amongst backs and forwards allowed the Muir side to play in Despatch's half and continue applying pressure.

The visiting Muir was not done and continued with their intensity and got just reward when Majola scored his second of the game. Despatches answer was when flank JC Crouse crossed for their second try of the game. Too little to late and Muir ended victors once the final whistle went.

Muir’s tight five had a phenomenal game dominating the break down area and giving their backs go-forward ball. Prop’s Liso Langman and Jonathan Jasson worked well together, while 8th man Lwnadile Vabaza had a stand out game in both defense and attack. Benjamin Madlingozi, Neo Mehlwana and Lisa Banzi need a mention as they were instrumental in the teams success.
