Jerome Oelf - Captain of George High

Despite being a veritable 'veteran' of FNB Classic Clashes rugby, George High captain Jerome Oelf admits that he is feeling somewhat nervous ahead of the match against local rivals, Pacaltsdorp Secondary, this Saturday.

The matric student will head into his third Classic Clash against Pacaltsdorp, his second as captain, but admits that even though he is just taking it as another game, he is feeling a bit nervous.

"We've had a good season so far. (But) while we've had some good preparation for the game, I am feeling slightly nervous," Oelf told classicclashes.co.za.

"While we had a good game against Pacaltsdorp last time," he added, "we made a few basic errors in the last few minutes which cost us the game."

The No.8 though is keen to chalk up a win in his final year at school, after being on the losing side in both his previous appearances. Oelf, though, feels that - with the positive energy around the team, coupled with the excitement from his school mates - George can pull off a win this time round.

The 1.70m matric student will be taking to the field as the No.8 for this fixture, after having played as the loosehead prop and previously as a No.6 flank for his side.

Oelf, however, does not mind the switch in positions, saying that he simply "enjoys being on the field". "I love the physical aspect of the game and don't mind taking the hits," he added.

Jerome cites his brother as his inspiration for playing rugby as well as Free State Cheetahs flank Lucas 'Kabamba' Floors.

Of Floors, Oelf said: "He may well be smaller than the players he plays against, but he never gives up."

Oelf would like to study at Pukke and become a sports coach one day.
