Edwards wants to 'drop' points

Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards, a former Great Britain rugby league international, revived an old complaint on Saturday when he lamented a drop-goal being worth three points in union compared to one in the 13-man code.

Edwards had seen France-based flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson kick 13 points in England's 23-19 World Cup warm-up win against the Welsh at Twickenham, a haul which included two drop-goals.

One came off his left foot, the other off the right, and were worth an important six points in total.

"I still don't understand how you get three points for a drop-goal, it should be one," insisted Edwards.
