Queen Elizabeth from England toured South Africa and picked up Muir College as a fixture during their visit. The Muir side showed how creating space and playing off the ball carrier was more efficient and successful than playing with your forwards. The Muir side won 29-15 in a pleasant fixture enjoyed by all on the field.

The visitors put the first points on the board when their fullback kicked a penalty. This lead was short-lived as Sonwabo Majola showed some individual brilliance and a clean pair of heels to score the first of Muir’s five tries. Flyhalf Darren Wates kicked the conversion. The College 1st XV extended their lead when outside centre Lutho Jibiliza crossed the line. Muir was leading 12-3 going into the break.

The visitors rumbled towards the try-line with their forwards to score their second of the game. The visitors scored their second of the game though their forwards and took the lead with a seven pointer. Muir soon struck back when Jibiliza scored his second of the game. The Muir side upped their intensity and started running the ball from all angles of the field and rewarded with two more tries to seal victory. The tries came from replacement centre Athenkosi Mapuma and loose-head prop Liso Langman. Wates converted only one of the two tries.

This young Muir side must be commended for their determination and playing to their strengths and were rewarded by being the victors of the day.
