Lions are top billing

The Unbeaten Lions are making all the noise in the Currie Cup so far this season and are dominant in the Team of the Week after their triumph over the Blue Bulls.

The Lions have been the whipping boys of South Africa rugby in recent years, but are making a strong case for their revival this season and all the talking of building may be starting to pay dividends.

The victory over the Bulls earns the Lions five players in our team, while the Cheetahs (three), Bulls (three), Griquas (two), Western Province (one) and the Leopards (one) make up the numbers.

There was also an upset on the weekend as Griquas repeated their home triumph over the Sharks from last season, and win themselves a staggering six places in the Bubbling Under XV, as the Sharks (three), Lions (two), Cheetahs (two), Leopards (one) and Western Province (one) are also in the mix.

Only two players are back from last week's team, and it is the centre pairing of Andries Strauss and Johann Sadie who are making a big impression in the midfield.

Here is our Currie Cup Team of the Week for Round Four:

15 - Rudi Vogt (Griquas): The metronomic kicking of slender fullback Rudi Vogt, who looks more male model than sweaty rugby player was superb. His 9/9 record whenever given the chance to kick for posts was sheer kicking perfection off the tea.
Bubbling under: Louis Ludik (Sharks)

14 - Akona Ndungane (Blue Bulls): Looks to be regaining some of his form after nearly two years away from the Currie Cup through long term injuries, and his commitment to score an acrobatic try proves that he still has he wing's instinct to finish off in the corner.
Bubbling under: Danie Poolman (Western Province)

13 - Johann Sadie (Western Province): A fantastic try from broken play early in the match and he looks for space to beat his man, rather than barreling straight into the defence as so many other South African centres do.
Bubbling under: Jean Stemmet  (Griquas)

12 - Andries Strauss (Cheetahs): His attacking game could still use some work, but the sturdy centre doesn't miss a tackle and was as solid as a rock once again.
Bubbling under: Barry Geel (Griquas)

11 - Vainon Willis (Leopards): The slender former Baby Bok was nippy and looked dangerous whenever he had ball in hand and a hint of a gap.
Bubbling under: Sibusiso Sithole (Sharks)

10 - Elton Jantjies (Lions): His presence made a dramatic difference in the way the Lions attacked and he grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and dictated the play.
Bubbling under: Sias Ebersohn (Cheetahs)

9 - Michael Bondesio (Lions): The former Leopard ace filled the jersey vacated by Jano Vermaak with aplomb and took advantage of a rare opportunity to start for the Lions.
Bubbling under: Marnus Hugo (Griquas)

8 - Joshua Strauss (Lions): The bearded wonder was as strong as a house and is fast becoming a cult hero in Johannesburg, as he narrowly fended off the challenge from Griquas captain Jonathan Mokuena who deserves an honourable mention.
Bubbling under: Jonathan Mokuena (Griquas)

7 - Derick Minnie (Lions): The hard working blindside flank isn't afraid to get his hands dirty as he climbed into every ruck and maul and made a menace of himself.
Bubbling under: Davon Raubenheimer (Griquas)

6 - Heinrich Brüssow  (Cheetahs): In the 25 minutes he was on the field the Springbok ace had a massive impact and .did more in that short amount of time than any other openside flank achieved in 80 minutes this weekend.
Bubbling under: Cobus Grobbelaar (Lions)

5 - Juandre Kruger (Blue Bulls): One of the few bulls forwards to come away with his reputation enhanced, as the tower of a man could be vital in the Bulls engine room for years to come.
Bubbling under: Franco van der Merwe (Lions)

4 - Hendrik Roodt (Griquas): A big reputation from age group level, and the former Bull finally lived up to his top billing with a physical performance that lightweight Sharks wing Mark Richards certainly won't forget anytime soon.
Bubbling under: Francois Uys (Cheetahs)

3 - Jacobie Adriaanse (Lions): The tough tighthead had the better of Springbok Dean Greyling and narrowly edges out his brother, as both Adriaanse brothers were dominant at scrum time this week.
Bubbling under: Lourens Adriaanse (Griquas)

2 - Chiliboy Ralepelle (Blue Bulls): He's found some rich form and looked dangerous on several occasions, with some strong scrumming, was energetic in open play and scored a good try.
Bubbling under: Craig Burden (Sharks)

1 - Coenie Oosthuizen (Cheetahs): The likeable Cheetahs front row made life difficult for the Province front row and was as powerful as ever at first receiver.
Bubbling under: BG Uys (Leopards)
