Preview: Klein Nederburg vs New Orleans

Published: Thursday, 11. August, 2011 in category Southern Hemisphere

Klein Nederburg and New Orleans meet in an FNB Classic Clash at the Faure Street Stadium, packing the ground for the second successive week with an Interschools match. There will be vast enthusiasm again.

The two sides  will play with their usual flare and enthusiasm. New Orleans may well be the favourites but Klein Nederburg have just won four times in a row. New Orleans have enjoyed victories over Schoonspruit, Swartland, Labori and Hawston amongst others. Klein Nederburg also beat Hawston and drew with Charlie Hofmeyr but struggled against DF Malan, De Kuilen and Hugenote.

The two teams know each other well. Not only are they both from Paarl, but twice this year they combined to form an FNB Invitation XV, at the St John's Festival in Johannesburg and the Swartland Festival in Malmesbury.

Results against common opponents

Hawston: Klein Nederburg won 32-7, New Orleans 5-3.
Langenhoven Gim (Oudtshoorn): Klein Nederburg lost 34-7, New Orleans 36-17.

Provincial representation

Craven Week

There was just one from the two schools in the Boland side - Clinton Ruiters, the New Orleans loose forward.

Academy Week

Klein Nederburg: Jeehan de Kock

New Orleans: Damian Engeldoe, Danwill Cupido

Damian Engeldoe has done exceptionally well but will not be playing in Paarl on Saturday. Instead he will be playing against France for the SA Academy side.

The occasion is more than just a rugby match on the Saturday. It is a whole week of competition and festivity, climaxing on the Saturday.

It starts on Monday when the B teams and Old Boys of the two schools play at Dal Josaphat.

There are more games at Klein Nederburg - hockey and soccer on Wednesday, table tennis, netball, basketball and chess on Thursday.

On Friday the past pupils gather, each for its own Big Brag.
