Andre Venter - Captain of Outeniqua

Andre Venter, the captain of Hoërskool Outeniqua, has plenty of reasons to do well in the FNB Classic Clashes match against Hoërskool Oudtshoorn this Saturday.

After breaking his leg in last year's corresponding fixture, the matric student is just grateful to get another chance to run out in the Interschools game and repay the faith the school showed him while he was injured.

There's also the little matter of setting the records straight between the schools.

Venter told classicclashes.co.za: "We're extremely motivated to play on Saturday. We want to win this game so that we can overturn last year's defeat. And we have home field advantage."

Last year's defeat saw Outeniqua lose its streak of seventeen victories against Oudtshoorn, and Venter is keen see his side get the first win of what he hopes is another long winning streak.

An extra motivating factor, the centre says, is the upswell of school spirit he has seen.

"You can feel the school spirit. The atmosphere of anticipation is so thick you can feel it in the school corridors. It's just amazing to be apart of," the 18-year-old commented.

Venter though wasn't always a centre. Up until Grade 10, he played as a flyhalf and then made the switch to centre. He says that he is more than comfortable playing at centre thanks to the school's coaches helping him to make the adjustment.

Who does he admire? All Blacks superstar Dan Carter. Why? "He's just an outstanding player," is what the Outeniqua captain had to say about the matter.

It is hard to argue with that!

Venter was also part of the South Western Districts Eagles Under-18 side that played at the recent 2011 Academy Week.
