Zaine Marx - Captain of Grey PE

Zaine Marx will lead Grey High School of Port Elizabeth into battle against Selborne College in their FNB Classic Clashes encounter this Saturday.

Whilst most betting people would favour Selborne - ranked third on the FNB Top 20 - over Grey PE at present, their determined captain, Marx, said otherwise.

"The boys of Grey High have a point to prove," Zaine told us ahead of this FNB Classic Clash.

"We've had a tough two weeks coming into the match, where reuslts haven't gone our way, but the team is keen to prove to the rest of the school that we can beat Selborne," the flanker added.

Marx, though, feels that he has even more to prove after sitting most of the season with a torn knee ligament.

In fact, the game against Selborne will be his first game back since his injury.

"We didn't play well against Selborne last year," the 18-year-old said of their 13-30 loss in last year's fixture which he played in too. "[But] this is our (the matric students') last match and we want to make up for last year too. We're feeling real positive about the game."

Marx's injury woe has been a source of disapointment for him as he missed the chance to play in the 2011 Craven Week. The matric student was eager to focus on a happier subject, however; saying that he was simply thankful for the chance to run out for the school one more time.

Marx has based his style of play on that of tireless All Blacks captain Richie McCaw - his favourite player.

Asked if he would have divided loyalties when the World Cup comes around, Marx replied: "No way. I will always back the Boks, but I reckon that the All Blacks are the team to beat at the World Cup."

The flanker has set his sights on completing a B.Comm degree at either Stellenbosch University or the University of Cape Town and wants to run out in the Varsity Cup for his chosen university in 2012.
