Ashton blow for England

England suffered a late blow with confirmation that Rugby League recruit Chris Ashton has been ruled out of the World Cup warm-up match against Wales with an ankle injury.

The Northampton wing rolled his ankle in training on Thursday and has been replaced in the starting line-up by Matt Banahan, with Delon Armitage promoted to the bench, the RFU said.

Ashton's injury is not thought to be serious, but the England medics were not prepared to risk him playing so close to the World Cup.
